July 19, 2007

Convened:   By Jonathan Kraut 7:25 P.M.

Location:   Piccola Trattoria Restaurant, Canyon Country

Minutes:   Prepared by Marianne Bailey and following Jonathan's Kraut's agenda.

  1. Members present:   Jonathan Kraut, June Hanna, Bill Bailey, Michael Cruz, Carole Lutness, Isabella Clark, Minerva Williams, Todd Hoover, Cliff Fletcher and Marianne Bailey.

  2. No Old business.

  3. June Hanna applied for membership and paid her dues for 2007.

  4. Jonathan announced the Roosevelt Awards on July 29th at 6:00 PM. Bruce Mc Farland will be receiving an award. Tickets are $95.00. Lynn Shaw will also be receiving an award.

  5. There is a statewide event on July 28th. Jonathan asked us to check out the web sited at: http://www.democrats.org/page/event/detail/4vcwq

  6. DPSFV recap given by Mike Cruz - Elizabeth Edwards gave a speech. There were multiple resolutions passed. The election board will meet in 30 days. There will be 3-7 delegates for each of the 50 districts. The next meeting will be Nov 16th - 18th. All registered dems can attend. March 28th - 30th will be the next Statewide Convention in San Jose. August 25th - 28th will be the National Democratic Convention in Denver, Colorado. Mike reviewed the delegate selection process. The California Primary is Feb 2, 2008.

  7. The Open Space Initiative passed with a 69% yes vote! Jonathan thanked our club members who helped this happen: Bill, Diane, Maria, Mike and Sandra. Bruce McFarland's group chose not to vote, so that our approval would represent the Democrats of the SCV.

  8. Texas "Hold Em…" Date chosen is October 13th. Now called "Casino Night". We will be set up to play, Black Jack, Texas Hold Em and Craps. Bill and Angela will check to see if there is an area suitable for Jonathan's dance group. Carole will check on the fees and find out if we will need a liquor license for the event. We would like at least 50 people to attend. Tickets are $30 if purchased by October 1st and $35.00 at the door. Minerva suggested we have a table set up for voter registration.

  9. Barack Obama has agreed to come to the SCV in late Dec or early Jan for a breakfast or lunch event. Tickets will be apprx $25.00. Darren Parker has invited Hillary Clinton and John Edwards as well, but they have not responded as of this meeting.

  10. Voter Registration this year is restricted to malls only. Each club has 5 dates per year. Voters must be registered 30 days prior to the election. For our Fall election all voters should be registered by September 15th. Carole will get back to us with the answer on what the 5 dates are per calendar year.

  11. Upcoming Elections - Jonathan has interviewed 3 candidates for the COC school board. None had the intellectual attributes or the physical attributes needed for this post. The deadline is August 10th. Candidates must have strong communication skills, a background in education and a background in finance. The Unions may be able to help find candidates.

  13. Please email Jonathan any questions for the City Council debates. These debates will be in Feb '08. We are looking to categorize these questions. Looking for anywhere from 60 -200 questions! Jonathan's email is: krautjonathan@yahoo.com

  14. Our next meeting will be on August 16th in Castaic. Minerva will contact us by email with details.

  15. Round Table discussion… We discussed the need to get organized and connect with our contributors to invite them to our next event. We need to get to know them. SCVEC needs a representative from our club. SCV is soon to be a Green City. We are working toward that goal. Minerva would like to work with Mike on telemarketing and she would like to work with young dems. Minerva will prepare a master calendar. She suggested we need to get our info on our web site well in advance so people can plan to attend our meetings and events. She will also meet with Carole and work with Justin and Calli to contact the young dems. Todd will work on a web page for our club. The "38th" will be meeting at IHOP 7/25 at 7:00 PM. This club needs 40 volunteers to reach 120 homes.
